The Achievement Gap

1).What do you think causes the achievement gap?

I think that what causes the achievement gap is the lack of work. It all depends on the students. If they want to learn then they'll try their hardest to do their work and pay attention. If they dont want to learn then they'll just kick back and do nothing and they wont care if they fail their class or not.

2).What can students do to close the gap?

Students should work hard. They should start caring for their grades and what they do in class instead of caring how they look. They should focus on their studies and pay attention. They should do their homework everyday and study twice as hard for tests and quizzes.

3).What can parents do to close the gap?

Parents should encourage their kids to try harder. They should check up on them and see what their kd is doind at school. I think that it doesnt really matter what the parents do because like i said before its all up to the student weather they want to learn and become someone in life or not and work at mcdonalds.

4).What can teachers/schools do to close the gap?

Teachers should think of new methods on how to teach their students. Schools should provide better food/lunches because sometimes food is what gets kids energy to learn something new. I think that the most important thing that teachers can do is encourage their students to work hard, give them examples of what will happen if they study and what will happen if they dont.

Questions About Tom Hayden

1).What did you think of Mr. Hayden?

I thought that Mr. Hayden was going to be a young guy and everything but he turned out to be an old guy. I'm not saying its a bad thing that hes old but thats what i thought, i thought that he was going to be a little bit younger. He was a really nice men. He looked like he was enjoying it i mean some people come because they have to come but he looked like he liked being here explaining it to us. I also thought that he considered himself a good leader but he doesn't.

2).Tom Hayden does not consider himself a civil rights leader. Do you see him as one? Why or why not?

Well my opinion is that i dont think of him as a civil rights leader because i mean like yah he did do a good job on it but still there were better people that are consideres a civil rights leader.

3).Tom Hayden feels that leaders are not as important as the hundreds or thousands of people behind them what does he mean by that?

He means that just because ur not leader it doesnt mean that ur not important because they are. They are more important because if they dint have people behind them they wouldnt be succesful thats what he means by that quote.

i think that phrase "stop hurting yourself" means stop hurting yourself. first of all you shouldnt even start. when you hurt yourself you also hurt others because the people that love you suffer because they see you hurting yourself and it also hurts them because they love you. so when you hurt yourself you are also hurting your loved ones because they care for you and they dont want to see you do that so dont hurt yourself or if you already do then stop.
